Sure Start Children’s Centres

Posted 20th April 2020

The Committee learnt that some children’s centres were offering holiday and after school clubs for older children, money management workshops, relationship counselling, parenting skills courses, basic skills courses for adults and domestic violence support groups  – all which extended beyond the original 0-5 years remit. Some witnesses giving evidence such Action for Children, Ormiston Children & Families Trust and 4Children argued that the age range of Children’s Centres should be extended, because a strict age limit of 5 is problematic for families with older siblings who also have identified needs. This was especially apparent in children’s centres that were attached to schools.
